It's a safe bet to say Dubuque appreciates its veterans and respects their service. And now, the University bearing the City's namesake can also make an additional claim as a place for military spouses.

The University of Dubuque has earned a 2022-2023 Military Spouse Friendly® School designation for its leading practices, outcomes, and effective programs for military families.

"I am proud of how we support our veteran spouses and families," said Rick Ernst, the Sergeant Jeffrey B. Dodge Veterans Center Director. "One of the ways we go the extra mile for spouses is by offering them reduced tuition through our Salute to Service program," added Ernst. "With the program, veteran spouses, who may have had their careers impacted by multiple military moves, can more readily attend college."

Institutions earning the Military Spouse Friendly® School designation were evaluated using public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey. Over 1,200 schools participated in the 2022-2023 survey, with 785 schools earning the designation as a Military Friendly School. Of these, 346 were selected for the Military Spouse Friendly Schools list.

Earlier this year, UD received the 2022-2023 Military Friendly® School designation and placement on the Top 10 Military Friendly® Schools list as No. 3 in the Private Schools Offering Doctorate category.

UD's commitment to service members and veterans dates back to World War II with the Navy's V5/V12 programs. It continues to the present day with a vibrant U.S. Army ROTC program. Additionally, the veterans center provides individuals and their families a seamless transition from military to civilian college life.

The 2022-2023 Military Spouse Friendly® Schools list was published in Military Spouse magazine's June issue and can be found at www.militaryfriendly.com.
