The pools close, school starts, and the leaves start to change... but the official sign that summer is done and fall has come is finally here.

If you were creating a list called "Dubuque Summers," there would probably be a lot of things to include, but one of my favorites has to be the evening stops at the Dairy Queen on Rhomberg Avenue.

It seems like just yesterday we were driving by waiting to see that marquee lit up, letting us know it was time to stop in and grab that delicious ice cream cone or blizzard. All those countless nights leaving the pool dripping wet but still ready to end a day of swimming with a cold, delicious treat.

And walking up on fireworks night, seeing the multiple lines 6 people deep, but waiting anyway because it tastes so good!

Last night we drove by and saw the devastating news... Sunday is their final day for the season!

I've had this conversation with so many people about how there is something unique about this particular DQ location that makes it so special. The ice cream seems just a little bit better than other places and the fact you have to get out of your vehicle and walk up to the window to place your order really makes it an oddity with today's drive-through and delivery everything.

Maybe it's just me, or do you feel the same way?

See you in the spring, Dairy Queen! I'll be counting the days!
