The Dubuque Law Enforcement Center, a crucial hub for community support and assistance, has recently introduced significant changes to its operational policies. These changes, while essential for enhancing safety and maintaining cleanliness, also aim to ensure continued accessibility for all visitors, including those experiencing homelessness or seeking assistance.

Effective immediately, the Dubuque Law Enforcement Center will implement new lobby hours. The inner lobby doors will be locked from 4:30 PM to 8:00 AM, with the outer lobby doors to the sidewalk secured from 6:00 PM to 8:00 AM. Despite these restricted hours, individuals requiring assistance after-hours are still welcome to access services.

To facilitate after-hours access, the center has installed call buttons and speakers. Visitors in need of assistance during locked hours can simply activate the call button, and our dispatch team will remotely unlock the doors. This system ensures that essential services such as filing complaints, speaking to officers or deputies, or depositing funds into inmate accounts remain accessible and uninterrupted.

The decision to implement these new policies stems from recent challenges faced by the center. Over the past few months, instances of misuse, particularly by individuals overstaying their welcome, leaving behind trash, and causing discomfort for other visitors, have necessitated a reassessment of operational procedures. While the center has historically provided temporary refuge for homeless individuals, recent incidents have highlighted the need to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all visitors.

Understanding the importance of supporting individuals experiencing homelessness or poverty, residents must know about the availability of various shelters and assistance programs in the Tri-State area. These include:
