Tim McGraw has had to overcome his share of health and wellness challenges over the course of his career. Now, the country star will be sharing the story of his journey toward physical wellbeing in a new book, Grit & Grace: Train the Mind, Train the Body, Own Your Life, due out on Nov. 5, 2019.

McGraw gave up alcohol in 2008, and explained that he knew that his drinking was becoming a problem when it began to negatively impact both his career and his home life. "It was turning me into a person I didn't want to be. I knew I was at a point where I could lose everything in my life. First and foremost, my family," McGraw shared on Oprah Winfrey's Master Class TV show in 2014.

Instead, the superstar embraced an active lifestyle that includes regular physical exercise. A decade after beginning his health-conscious new routine, McGraw looks back on the important role that exercise has played in his life.

"I've gone through a physical transformation in the last 10 years, but it's not just my appearance that's changed," McGraw explains to People. "My mind is clearer, my sense of purpose is sharper and my relationships are deeper. Consistent physical exercise helps me bring focus to my life and to the people who mean the most to me."

When he embarked upon his fitness journey, McGraw began working out twice a day, and unintentionally lost 40 pounds in the first two years. However, he explained at the time, losing weight is secondary to adopting a holistic approach to health, both mental and physical. People shares that the singer's upcoming book will include his exercise tips and own approach to fitness, which includes the philosophy that each person needs to create an individual vision for what they hope to get out of exercise and healthy living.

For McGraw, that vision was about staying healthy, feeling good and remaining connected to his work and family. However, he adds, the clarity and focus that exercise brought to his life can help people achieve whatever personal goals they may have.

"That's something we all want. And I believe it's something that is available to anyone who wants it, regardless of their level of fitness," he adds. "I want this book to help people find what works for them by sharing the mental and physical approach that has worked for me."
