Behind the scenes at the 2019 ACM Awards, there was a Reba reunion happening. Country superstar and ACM Awards host Reba McEntire's former TV co-star, Melissa Peterman, served as a scriptwriter for this year's awards show.

McEntire revealed to reporters backstage in the 2019 ACM Awards media room that Peterman had joined the show's writing team this year -- and McEntire was thrilled about it.

"I wanted Melissa in there because she knows my voice, she knows what I like, what I don't want in there, because I worked with her for so many years," McEntire shared, "and she is one of the funniest people I've ever met in my life."

ACM Awards viewers did get a glimpse of Peterman herself, not just her writing, during Sunday night's (April 7) ceremony, too: The actress introduced McEntire's performance of her new single, "Freedom," during the broadcast.

Reba debuted on Oct. 5, 2011, on the WB network. In addition to McEntire and Peterman, the show also starred Christopher Rich and Joanna Garcia. Despite high ratings, the TV show -- which aired on the CW network for its final season -- was canceled at the end of Season 6, in 2007.

Since then, Reba fans have been gunning for a reboot of the TV show. McEntire still sees her former castmates from time to time and is on board for a reunion or reboot, but working with her own and her TV family's busy calendars makes things difficult. In 2018, she shared that, although she'd be game for a reunion, it may not happen for a while due to those schedules.
