Lauren Alaina's new single is a throwback to a time of pop princesses, leopard print-wearing country superstars and girl power. Readers can press play above to hear "Ladies in the '90s."

Written by Alaina, Jesse Frasure and Amy Wadge, "Ladies in the '90s" nods to both country and pop hits of the decade. Referencing everything from Deana Carter's "Strawberry Wine" to TLC's "No Scrubs," Alaina recalls a time when she "was raised on radio waves where the ladies dominated," and admits "Sometimes I close my eyes and just replay it."

"I just wanna feel like ladies in the '90s / Turn the dial and find me some "Strawberry Wine,"" Alaina sings in the chorus of "Ladies in the '90s." "So I can sing all night long, actin' like I'm Britney / Come on, 'baby, hit me' just 'one more time.'"

In the second verse of "Ladies in the '90s," Alaina reflects on how the powerhouse women of the decade "paved the way for me""They weren't afraid to make a statement," she sings. "That's what I call entertainment." In the bridge, she ties women's domination in the '90s back to today's debates over women on country radio: "Females were unstoppable / Can't say that it's impossible."

Frasure produced "Ladies in the '90s," the first taste of new music from Alaina since she released her sophomore album, Road Less Traveled, in 2017. Alaina's performed the song live a few times already.
