Jo Daviess County Man Arrested in Shooting Death on July 14, 2020

37 year old David Van Winkle of Hanover was arrested today, Wednesday July 22, 2020 and charged with 3 counts of first degree murder and one charge of aggravated battery with a firearm. Van Winkle is currently in custody at the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office. Bond is set at $1,000,000

These charges stem from a physical confrontation that took place in rural Hanover, Illinois, between Mr. Van Winkle and Dana Clark on July 14, 2020.  The charges allege that Mr. Van Winkle, without lawful justification, shot Mr. Clark in the chest with a handgun, thereby causing his death.

This incident was investigated by the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the Illinois State Police, Jo Daviess County Coroner’s Office and the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office.
