Jimmie Allen Strips Down ‘Make Me Want To’ for New Acoustic Performance [WATCH]

Jimmie Allen's newest single, "Make Me Want To," is pretty dang perfect when it's stripped down to its acoustic form. Allen recently gave a pitch-perfect performance of the song at Taste of Country's studio in Nashville; press play above to watch.

Written by Allen, Paul Sikes and Jennifer Denmark, "Make Me Want To" comes from Allen's debut album, 2018's Mercury Lane. An infectious melody backs lyrics about love -- or at least lust -- at first sight in a "hole in the wall" bar. "If you're thinkin' what I'm thinkin' / We ain't gonna be in this bar too long," he sings in the chorus. "Yeah, it might be too soon to say 'I love you' / But you're gonna make me want to."

"Make Me Want To" is Allen's second career single. The song follows "Best Shot," which hit No. 1 in November and made Allen the first black country artist to land a No. 1 debut song.

"I'm a sensitive guy. A lot of times I catch feelings fast, maybe too fast," Allen tells Taste of Country. "It's a song about a guy that meets a girl, and he catches feeling, and he's not afraid to tell her."

Allen is Taste of Country's newest RISER. The 32-year-old Delaware native is seeing his star rise after spending more than a decade in Nashville, even living out of his car for a few months after moving there in 2007. He scored his deal with Stoney Creerk Records after meeting producer Ash Bowers in 2016.

"A lot of times it's easier to chase what's been done than create something new, but if you look at all the artists that we love, that we say are superstars or pioneers, they're the first," Allen says. "I like adversity, because I feel like it's motivation. I feel like if everything is easy and you're always told how great you are, then there's no need to get better."
