Devil’s Lake State Park Adds 100 Acres: Explore the Stunning Views
My latest hike at Devil’s Lake State Park reminded me why this Wisconsin treasure is so amazing and well-visited. From climbing the East and West Bluff trails to wading in the lake’s crystal clear waters, every step showcases the park’s natural beauty, and there's lots of it to discover! But here's the new, really exciting thing about the park: it's about to get bigger!
A new park expansion was recently finalized by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources through the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program, with the land purchase adding approximately 100 acres. The new section was previously one of the largest privately owned parcels within the park.

The acquisition ensures that even more cliffs, forests, and trails will remain undeveloped for future park goers. Walking the already amazing trails with my family, I can see how much more opportunity the addition will bring for hiking, exploring, and conservation in general.
Devil’s Lake has nearly 30 miles of trails, including parts of the 1,200-mile Ice Age National Scenic Trail. With the latest acquisition, the park plans to expand access to more overlooks and extend the trail, giving hikers fresh paths to explore.
As I think back to my last trip to Devil's Lake, stopping at iconic spots like Devil’s Doorway and Balanced Rock, I realized that the park’s beauty goes far beyond the cliffs and water. It's truly a place to preserve and cherish.
