The well-known "March Madness" is getting set to tip-off on basketball courts all across the United States, but at an indoor track in Ohio this weekend, college athletes of a different sport will compete in their own version.

Move over, wrestling, football, and basketball: the University of Iowa men's indoor track and field team is chasing a title in its field (no pun intended) too, and the odds look really good, according to the Cedar Rapids Gazette.

The aforementioned sports, and to some extent baseball, tend to get most of the love in Iowa, and elsewhere for that matter--and they deserve it all. But, even us non-athletes realize there is at least one main fundamental to master before having real success at any sport: running. Decorated champion and Northern Iowa alum Joey Woody has coached his Hawkeye team to a record already this year. 11 Iowa runners are heading to Geneva, Ohio for this weekend's NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.

10 men will chase a trophy, with only Texas Tech having more qualifiers at 11. Iowa's 11th entry is on the women's side in the 4x400 relay.

Why is the track team so stacked? Well, obviously it has a lot to do with their coach. Check out Joey Woody's resume, according to Wikipedia:

Woody tried out, but unfortunately missed the cut for the 2000, 2004, and 2008 Olympics but his experience is nothing to sneeze at. They've also had a tougher schedule pushing them to achieve more this season after COVID-19 relegated them to a conference-only schedule last year.

Iowa also won the Big Ten Conference men's track title this year.

According to NCAA.com, the only way to watch the Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend, March 11-12 is on ESPN3.

Coverage will begin at 10 a.m. Iowa time on Friday, and 10:30 a.m. Saturday. ESPNU will carry a replay at 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

The list of Iowa's competitors and their events can be found here. A handful of athletes from Iowa State and Northern Iowa will be competing as well, with the full list of selections found here.
