The Dubuque Telegraph Herald reports authorities are investigating a fatal shooting in rural Jackson County.

According to a press release issued this morning by the sheriff's department, Jackson County Sheriff's Department deputies and Maquoketa Police Department officers responded at about 5:35 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a report of a man who had been shot near Fulton, north of Maquoketa, Iowa,

The report says one man was taken by ambulance to Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa, where medical personnel pronounced him dead.

Investigators with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the sheriff's department interviewed two people at the scene of the shooting.

“All parties involved were cooperative, and no persons were detained” following the interviews,

Authorities plan to release the name of the deceased after relatives have been notified.

Today's news release said,

“The investigation is ongoing, and no known community safety concerns are related to the incident,”.
