Wallethub.com ranked the best cities for NCAA Division One basketball.  As you might expect, most of the cities in our part of the country received strong ratings, while not quite at the highest levels.  Of 289 cities with at least one Division one team, Ames finished in 23rd, ahead of Iowa City which was 31st. Champaign was ranked 38th, and a city with longtime reputation as a football town, Lincoln, NE finished back at number 133.

Meanwhile, what famous Midwestern college town finds itself looking up at all of these cities, along with such basketball meccas as Dekalb, IL, Martin, TN, and Princess Ann, MD?  Madison. The home of the Badgers, world renown for its love of football tailgating, Madison sits all the way back at number 211!

Wallethub.com did the calculations based on several metrics including stadium capacity, ticket prices, number of coaches over the past 10 years, and social media engagement.  See the report and details here: Wallethub Best Hoops Cities
