We need more people like Willie Ray Fairley!

If that name sounds familiar to you, it's probably because you've heard about all the amazing things Willie has done for the Cedar Rapids community this past year. Following the derecho, he spent weeks feeding people in need for free through his business Willie Ray's Q Shack. His good deeds are far from over, though. KCRG reports that Willie announced on the restaurant's Facebook page yesterday that he plans to head to Texas today at noon to help feed people in need. The post reads:

"Me and the team is planning on going to Texas to help the needed. By any chance is there a couple volunteers that would like to pull the smokers. Willing to be gone for at least a week. If someone even had a RV willing to bring I will cover all gas and food. Share share share! Be on the road by noon tomorrow. Short notice but it can be done."

We haven't seen an update from Willie, but we're hoping that he found the help that he was looking for! The people of Texas are suffering right now thanks to that unexpected snow storm that knocked out power across the state, so I'm sure there is a serious need for hot meals. And, we know those hot meals will be delicious if they're coming from Willie!

We wish Willie and his volunteers the best of luck on his journey to Texas, and we have no doubt that people will be very appreciative of his efforts. We're proud to have someone like him here in Cedar Rapids!
