Here's the latest update on the fatal stabbing yesterday in Dubuque.

On Wednesday, June 17th, 2015 at 10:37 p.m., Dubuque Police responded to the alley between Loras Boulevard and Arlington Street on the report of a man who had fallen off a ledge and appeared to have been stabbed.  Upon arrival, officers were confronted by a combative man who fought with them and attempted to get into the driver’s seat of a police vehicle.  Officers were forced to utilize personal defense spray on the man and were ultimately able to gain control of him.  The man was transported to Finley Hospital for treatment of his injuries.  He was later identified as Eddie J. Hicks, 26, of 567 Arlington Street.

While dealing with Hicks, officers checking the immediate area located an unresponsive adult female on the ground outside 567 Arlington Street.  The female appeared to be suffering from severe, life-threatening injuries.  She was transported to Mercy Hospital where she succumbed to the injuries and was declared deceased at 3:06 a.m. this morning.  Based on the ongoing investigation, it is believed Hicks was in a domestic relationship with the female and is responsible for her injuries and subsequent death.

Hicks remains in police custody and is being charged with 1st Degree Murder.  The identity of the female victim will be released later today.

As with any criminal case, the charges filed are allegations and any suspects are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.
