Trisha Yearwood was one of the biggest stars in country music in the '90s, but the superstar actually missed out on one of the biggest hits of the decade.

Deana Carter launched herself to overnight stardom and scored a multi-platinum hit with "Strawberry Wine" in 1997, but as Yearwood tells the Boot, she had the song on hold and finally passed on it before Carter ever cut it.

"I always joke about 'Strawberry Wine,' which I had on hold and let go. It went on to sell four million singles," she says ruefully.

Carter hit No. 1 with "Strawberry Wine," which took home Song of the Year honors at the 1997 CMA Awards and the Nashville Music Awards. It was also voted Song of the Year by the Nashville Songwriters Association International, whose voters consist of professional songwriters.

"The truth is, that song was meant for Deana Carter," Yearwood tells the Boot. "When I cut 'She's in Love with the Boy,' it had been around two or three years before I recorded it. I think songs end up where they are supposed to be."

Ironically, Yearwood's husband, Garth Brooks, names "Strawberry Wine" as his favorite song of the '90s.
