The Official 2021 RAGBRAI Route Has Been Announced

After a disappointing 2020, organizers behind the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa are gearing up for an exciting 2021! Last April, they were forced to cancel the event because of the coronavirus pandemic, but they opted to keep the planned route the same for 2021, with a few small changes.

Over the weekend, this year's official RAGBRAI route was announced during an event at Big Grove Brewery in Iowa City. According to an article on RAGBRAI's website, the ride will take place July 25th through July 31st. The article says:

"It will be the same Le Mars-to-Clinton route planned for 2020, with two notable changes: Sac City and DeWitt will replace Storm Lake and Maquoketa as overnight towns."

Here are the daily routes posted on RAGBRAI's website:

• Day 1 - Le Mars to Sac City
• Day 2 - Sac City to Fort Dodge
• Day 3 - Fort Dodge to Iowa Falls
• Day 4 - Iowa Falls to Waterloo
• Day 5 - Waterloo to Anamosa
• Day 6 - Anamosa to DeWitt
• Day 7 - DeWitt to Clinton

Because of the pandemic, RAGBRAI organizers are allowing some room for changes. As of right now, they hope to have the event with 15,000-20,000 riders per day, but plans may be altered depending on the vaccine rollout. They could end up putting a restriction on the number of riders, extending the route hours, assigning start times, requiring a negative COVID test, or even requiring a vaccine, among other possibilities.
