So my boyfriend and I recently purchased a home and I'm thrilled to start fixing it up to make it nice and homey. But of course, I've come across the all too familiar problem...what color should I paint each room? I wasn't even sure where to begin until I came across info on color and how it affects your mood. Total game changer.

When choosing paint it's important to know the basics of color theory and the meanings of colors, but it's also important to understand how different colors impact the average person on a psychological basis.

Warm colors tend to bring a sense of happiness. We're talking oranges, reds, and yellows. Reminiscent of a sunset! These colors also have an attention-grabbing effect, which may be a bit too much for some people who may be looking for a calmer effect.

Cool colors, such as blues, greens, and purples are the colors that have a calming effect. Purple can help spark creativity as it’s a mixture of blue, which is calming, and red, which can be interpreted as intense. However, be careful with cool colors. Some shades can express sadness rather than tranquility.

Pastels can bring a sense of happiness and are generally uplifting. I think my go-to color pallet as far as walls go would have to be pastels. I love me some lilac!

Now of course, the psychological effects of each color may not be the same for everyone, but it is proven that colors are linked to emotions. Next time you are picking out paint take a moment to think about what each color makes you feel!
