A personal thank you to the crew at Alliant energy that repaired a downed power line outside my home late Saturday night.  This crew came out on a Saturday night in the middle of a storm to restore power to me and my neighbors.  My 3 grandkids were staying at our house at the time and were more than a little concerned when the lights went out just after 8pm. I started fielding questions like "Are we going to be Ok?", "will the lights ever come back on", and "are we still safe".  I assured them that everything was indeed going to be OK.  And I think we were all relieved when we heard the sound of not one but two utility trucks pulling up next to our house.  i quickly directed them to the down power line behind my house and they went to work immediately. The power was restored a short time later. I have to admit, it was kind of nice for the grandkids to have to be "unplugged" for a short period of time.

It's seems only appropriate that the day before our outage was National Lineworker Appreciation Day, A day to thank those workers out in the field every day, at all times of the day and night, in every kind of weather. They ensure that customers like me have reliable and safe access to the energy we need to power our lives.  So on behalf of me and my family THANK YOU Alliant for restoring power as quickly as you did.

I also want to give a shout on to the young man who answered the phone when I called to report the power line down.  Not only was he genuinely concerned for my safety and the safety of my family, he THANKED me for calling in specific details about the line being down so they could rectify the situation faster.  He mentioned a lot of people call in outages but provide little more information.

So it may be a few days late...but happy National Lineworker Appreciation Day to the crew at Alliant Energy in Dubuque.
