NL Wild Card Recap: Giants Top Mets, 3-0, Thanks to Gillaspie, Bumgarner
Conor Gillaspie hit a three-run homer in the ninth inning and Madison Bumgarner threw a shutout, as the San Francisco Giants beat the New York Mets, 3-0, in the National League Wild Card game on Wednesday night in Queens, NY.
With the win, San Francisco advanced to face the N.L. Central champion Chicago Cubs in the best-of-five National League Divisional Series on Friday.
Gillaspie homered off New York closer Jeurys Familia, who had only allowed one home run all season while recording an MLB-high 51 saves.
Locked in a pitchers’ duel with Mets’ ace Noah Syndergaard for most of the game, Bumgarner lived up to his deserved reputation as a post-season stud, throwing a four-hitter to give his team the win.
