Loretta Lynn Praises ‘The Voice’ Contestant’s Cover of ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter’

It's a brave soul that tackles the music of country legend Loretta Lynn as a newcomer, but that's exactly what The Voice Season 16 contestant Hannah Kay did during the blind auditions for the Tuesday night episode (Feb. 26). Press play above to watch her performance!

Kay's boot-stomping performance of "Coal Miner's Daughter"  snagged not only the praise of coaches Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson, but also of the original artist, who took to social media to share her enthusiasm and support for the 18-year-old Texas native.

"I was honored that Hannah Kay picked the song that means the most to me for her audition on The Voice," Lynn posted on Facebook.  "Blake Shelton, take good care of her! Good luck, honey."

Kay chose to work with Shelton during the weeks to come, after a heated pitch from both the country super star and Clarkson. The latter also provided a compelling offer, telling  the teenager that she'd be more than happy to help her reach her goals.

"I do love the authentic country, which is missing," Clarkson said, promising to help Kay realize her dream of bringing old country back into play, an offer that Shelton extended as well.

"I heard Kelly mention the old style, that's not really out there anymore," Shelton told Kay, "and the truth is, it is out there. It's just not being celebrated. Hannah, you can be that female. You can be the one. You can be the one that gets those kind of records back in the mainstream."

Kay expressed her admiration for both the coaches who vied for her, telling Clarkson that she "grew up singing "Since U Been Gone" in my bedroom."

"...But, I've had a crush on Blake since I was six," she added, before ultimately choosing Shelton as her coach.
