Loretta Lynn Calls Out Tabloid Reports She’s Dying: ‘You’re Kiddin’ Me!’
Loretta Lynn wants to clear something up: She's not dying. In response to a recent tabloid report claiming that the country icon is on her deathbed, the singer used Facebook to dispel the rumor.
"Well, through the years they've said I'm broke, homeless, cheating, drinking, gone crazy, terminally ill and even dead! Poor things can't ever get it right," Lynn writes on Facebook. "I guess if those old pesky tabloids are harassing me then they're giving someone else a break ... but I'm about an inch from taking 'em to Fist City!"
Lynn's Facebook post includes a video -- "You're kiddin' me!" she says in reply to the story -- but it's the hashtags that really show her ire: #yourmommashouldataughtyoubetter is one of them, and she also included #fakenews as a hashtag.
Lynn's Facebook post is in response to a report, from RadarOnline, that her family was sending her to a assisted living facility to "spend her final days" there, and that her loved ones were saying their goodbyes. RadarOnline also recently claimed that Kenny Rogers was on his deathbed, a rumor that the singer dispelled: He had been treated at a hospital for dehydration and was completing physical therapy "to get his strength back prior to discharge."
Loretta Lynn's "The Pill" Was Banned -- But She Had the Last Laugh
Lynn has appeared in public sparingly since suffering a stroke in May of 2017, followed by a broken hip due to a fall in January of 2018. “I think people thought I wouldn’t come back from that,” Lynn admitted in October of that year. “And they’re really shocked when I tell them, ‘Well, I’m doing good, I’m moving my arms, I’m moving all my parts, and I can still sing.’”
Lynn's newest album, Wouldn't It Be Great, dropped in September of 2018. She'd postponed the project's release following her stroke, so that she could recover well enough to support the album.
“I don’t have nothing to prove, but I have stuff I want to do," she added back in the fall, "and my fans want me to do it too."
Lynn celebrated her 87th birthday with an early April tribute concert in Nashville. Garth Brooks, Brandy Clark, Alan Jackson, Miranda Lambert, Little Big Town, Martina McBride, Kacey Musgraves, Margo Price, Darius Rucker, George Strait, Keith Urban, Trisha Yearwood and more turned up to help honor the birthday girl.
