For Grammy-winning singer-songwriter John Berry, the year ahead is looking bright. However, a recent health scare has reminded the artist about the importance of being grateful for good health, and he's sharing a message of strength and optimism with his fans.

Before embarking on his 21-city Christmas tour at the end of 2018, Berry was treated for a tonsil infection. However, after the run of shows wrapped, Berry's health issues were still not improving despite a second run of antibiotics and steroids. In early January, the singer sought further treatment, and a CAT scan revealed a mass that appeared to be a tumor in one of his tonsils. He underwent surgery to have his tonsils removed on Jan. 10, and a portion of his soft palate was also removed during the procedure.

Soon after, a biopsy report confirmed that the mass on both tonsils was malignant. However, there was good news: Berry's course of treatment is only expected to last five weeks, and it has over a 90 percent cure rate. While he has a difficult few months ahead, Berry expects to make a full and relatively quick recovery, and will be able to return to his musical career soon.

As he addresses his health issues, Berry says he is leaning on the support of his wife Robin, his fanbase and his faith. As inspiration, the couple has adopted the message of Philippians 4:13: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

Following his course of treatment, Berry is planning a busy 2019, with a growing tour schedule and new music in the work. To stay up to date, visit his official website.
