Most of you reading this now have known me (Tom Drake) in some capacity on air in Dubuque and the Tri-States for the past 15 years or so. While a lot of what I do is from behind the microphone, a great deal of who I am as a person goes on "behind the scenes," and every once in a while, I like to give you all a look at my daily life.

That being said, I am also president of the Cascade Jr./Sr. High School Music Boosters this year. As a not-for-profit group, I get to do a lot more than just help at the concessions stands, although that's a big part of what we do. I also volunteer as a drummer for both our band and choir programs, which gives me the chance to work closely with our very talented Cascade students each day. Recently, I had the honor of joining the Vocal Affinity group at the state competition, helping them by playing the drums. They performed amazingly, and I couldn’t be prouder of their hard work. In fact, I am glad to be joining them again at an upcoming contest at Kirkwood College, and I’m excited to continue supporting both the choir and band at their upcoming school concerts.

One easy way our local community can support these students is through the 2nd Annual Cascade Fine Arts Mattress Fundraiser on Saturday, March 7th, from 10 AM to 5 PM at Cascade High School. For one day, the school will transform into a mattress showroom featuring over 30 styles in every size, all priced below retail. Adjustable bases, pillows, bed frames, and protectors are available, too. Top brands like Purple, Helix, and Therapedic are included, and all products come with full factory warranties.

The best part? Every purchase helps fund our fine arts programs. That's supporting trips, instruments, uniforms, and other opportunities that enrich our students’ musical and theater experiences. Even if you don’t have a student in the program, participating or spreading the word makes a big difference for our local arts students. And so you know, the first mattress fundraiser sale managed around $10K to the Cascade music programs!

Community support is what allows our students to thrive, and I’m grateful for every volunteer, donor, and shopper who helps make that happen. For more information, check out the provided flyer and come see me, but mainly the students, in action at an upcoming concert in Cascade!
