Carrie Underwood Launches Into Limp Bizkit Cover at Dyersville Concert

Dyersville, IA was rocking this weekend in more ways than one, thanks to Velocity Festival, a three-day music festival that took place at the Fields of Dreams Movie Site over the long Labor Day weekend. Also rocking was Carrie Underwood, who showed a different side of herself for which not many people were prepared.
As of late, Carrie Underwood has been collaborating with rock singers and bands, including Papa Roach, Motley Crue, and even Axl Rose, who joined her on stage at Stagecoach in 2022. However, if you missed these collabs, no one could blame you, and there was definitely a collective surprise at Velocity this weekend when, during her set, Underwood launched into a nu-metal medley.

Carrie Underwood Goes (Nu) Metal:

Donning a backwards red cap, Underwood ditched her country sound for a few minutes to perform an assortment of 90s and 2000s nu metal tunes, including Collective Soul's "Shine," Papa Roach's "Scars," and Limp Bizkit's "Break Stuff," which has garnered the most attention online. During her cover of the instantly recognizable song, Underwood jumped around on stage and honored Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst with the aforementioned hat, and even engaged in some headbanging as well.

In an earlier post on Instagram, Underwood revealed she had flown into Iowa ahead of schedule and caught Shinedown's headlining set the day prior to hers. That's where she garnered the inspiration to add some rock to her own set.

Underwood has admitted in the past that she grew up "listening to everything" and "is not opposed to" releasing a rock album one day. It would definitely be a significant change of pace for the mainstream, but if you've been following the breadcrumbs Underwood has been laying over the last several years, from her collaborations to this nu metal medley, it wouldn't be the most out-of-left-field pivot you could expect from the country music mainstay.
