Major Damage Forces Permanent Closure of Popular Iowa Winery
An Iowa winery that has hosted countless weddings and other events for four decades has decided to close for good.
Iowa Winery Decides to Close
Summerset Winery, a beloved venue near Indianola, Iowa, announced this week that it will be closing its doors for good. KCCI reports that after 40 years in business, the winery will be unable to reopen. According to a Facebook post, Summerset Winery suffered major damage when a waterline ruptured. The cost to repair and eventually reopen was just too much.
In a statement on the Summerset Winery website, the owners stated that they tried hard to find another outcome. But due to the rising cost of materials, high interest rates, and estimates much higher than expected, repairs simply weren't an option, according to KCCI.
A Special Auction Will Be Held
KCCI reports that the owners of Summerset Winery recognize how important the business was to the community. Details on a special auction will be released soon for anyone who wants to take a piece of the winery with them to remember.
Summerset Winery began growing grapes on Summerset Ridge in 1989. KCCI reports that since 2001, the winery has been in a large barn, which was designed to house its cellar, tasting room, and multiple event spaces.
