Is it fall color time already?

We're not even half through September and already we're seeing brightly colored maples, etc.  I snapped this pick while driving down Kaufmann Avenue yesterday.  Is this normal for this time of year?  Maybe it's just me, but it feels a bit early for bright leaf displays.
