The news coming out of the Iowa football program lately has made your head spin. Player transfers, early NFL entries, and recruiting news have given fans plenty to keep up on. You can file this story under recruiting, and it's more good news for the Iowa Hawkeye football program.

The Hawkeyes got some good news on the quarterback front as four-star recruit Marco Lainez III announced his commitment to Iowa on Monday, according to the Iowa City Press-Citizen. The high school junior out of New Jersey made his choice public on Twitter.

Lainez was a hotly sought-after quarterback in the 2023 class. Along with Iowa, he also had offers from Michigan State, Illinois, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Princeton, and West Virginia. The Press-Citizen reports that Iowa was the second team to offer him a scholarship, after UMass offered in September of last year. Lainez led his high school team to an undefeated record this season.

So what kind of quarterback is Iowa getting? The Press-Citizen reports that Lainez has a chance to be Iowa's first real dual-threat quarterback in years. According to coaches, Lainez has great arm talent and athleticism to not only extend plays, but have some built-in quarterback runs called too. Lainez is ranked as the #18 quarterback in the 2023 class.
