Fly-by-Night Productions Launches 40th Season with David Auburn Adaptation

We in the Tri-States are supremely lucky to live in an area where art, culture, and entertainment is plentiful, especially given the size of the region itself. Just this month alone, several different shows have been announced at Five Flags Center, Outside the Lines Art Gallery's "Great Draw" event is happening Sunday, and now, Fly-by-Night Productions is gearing up for its 40th season.

Kay Schroeder phoned-in to the show today to discuss the upcoming 40th season as well as an intriguing play that will see its premiere in the Bijou Room of the Five Flags Center this Friday, September 16th at 7:30pm. The play is Proof, written by acclaimed playwright David Auburn.

Written in 2000, Proof won the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Drama as well as the Tony Award for Best Play. It was adapted into a feature film in 2005, starring Gwyneth Paltrow, and directed by John Madden (Shakespeare in Love John Madden, to clarify). Now, Proof sees its premiere in Dubuque, starring a lot of fresh, new faces.

Directed by Logan Eigenberger, Proof revolves around Catherine (Alannah Walker), a troubled young woman who spent years caring for her father, Robert (David Mackie). Her dad was a famous mathematician, but succumbed to mental illness. As a result, Catherine is left with a notebook of Robert's that proved a theorem mathematicians believe to be impossible. However, the notebook has no credited writer. Was it her father? Are the solutions even correct? Was it simply a work of madness, or genius?

Schroeder clarified that this is a show best suited for mature audiences:

This is an adult-oriented show, so I will say that there is some mature content and language. I'd recommend having the kids stay at home.

Proof is set to premiere this Friday, September 16th at 7:30pm, with subsequent shows on September 17th, 18th, 23rd, and 24th. The show on Sunday, September 18th will be a 2pm matinee. All shows will take place at the Bijou Room of the Five Flags Center.

Tickets are $20 and they're available through the Five Flags box office. You can get them at the Locust Street entrance [during business hours], cash or credit, or at the door one hour before performance.
