Mother's Day is Sunday, May 8th. If you've not yet made a reservation at one of the usual hot spots for mom's special day, here's a suggested list of authentic possibilities beyond the typical for your consideration.

Copper Kettle 2987 Jackson St Dubuque, IA 52001 - The north-end neighborhood joint won't be doing anything special for Mom's Day, but that may work in your favor. Instead, they open at 11 am and will serve their regular locally sourced menu all day: great burgers, salads, and entrees like the bacon-wrapped meatloaf or fish and chips are sure to please mom. Devour Cafe 1798 Central Ave, Dubuque - Located at the "Central Curve," Devour serves an original and fresh menu, including excellent omelets and quiche. Mom will surely love one of the well-crafted lattes. Devour Cafe Facebook

1st & Main 101 Main Street — Dubuque, IA  - If mom is in the mood for chicken and waffles or Grand Marnier French Toast or will be happy with a delicious omelet with her bloody mary, then 1st & Main is the place. The website says they begin serving breakfast at 8 am followed by lunch. 1standmaindbq.com

The Foodie Garage 1046 Central 7 am 3 am - The Foodie Garage opens early for breakfast through lunch. They recently relocated from University Ave. to Central downtown. If mom would enjoy eggs, a country-fried steak, or a custom burger, add this fun joint and its extensive menu to your shortlist. foodiegarageeatery.com

Charlotte's Coffeehouse  1104 White St. Dubuque - If mom's craving an incredible Acai Bowl, panini, or perhaps avocado toast, head to Charlotte's on White St. downtown. One of their smoothies or specialty drinks will make mom feel appreciated. charlottescoffeehouse.com

Boy Scout Breakfast - Eagle Point Park on Shiras Ave. - What's better than pancakes in the park? Look no further than Dubuque's Eagle Point Park, where mom will enjoy the Order of the Arrow's Annual Mother's Day Pancake Breakfast with a view of the Mississippi River!

Mom will be grateful for her delicious breakfast that includes four freshly made pancakes, hot sausages, hot scrambled eggs, cold milk, and juice. The website doesn't say coffee, but it's probably a safe bet there'll be some available.

Tickets are $10 and free for kids under four years. The breakfast runs from 7:30 a.m.-to 12:30 pm at Eagle Point Park. Follow the signs upon entering the park. scoutingevent.com
