Dubuque Police Investigation Sunday Shooting
The Dubuque Police department has released information on Sunday's shooting incident in Dubuque:
On June 16, 2019, at approximately 10:23 PM, officers responded to the 2400 block of White St. for a disturbance with shots fired. Officers arrived on scene and located a 9-mm shell casing. During the same time frame, Ricardo Thomas, age 35, was transported to Mercy Hospital by private vehicle with a single gunshot wound to the torso. Thomas is recuperating after surgery.
Traffic cameras were reviewed, and a vehicle was seen leaving the scene. This vehicle was later located at 1331 Pine St. A search warrant was executed at that residence. A .40 caliber handgun, which had been reported stolen out of Sauk County, Wisconsin was recovered (this handgun was not related to the shooting). Cameron Mathew Hatcher, age 26, was arrested and charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Trafficking in Stolen Weapons. Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Trafficking in Stolen Weapons are Class D Felonies. A Class D Felony is punishable by not more than five years of confinement.
As officers reviewed traffic cameras, officers observed a person of interest putting something in a trash can in the 2100 block of Washington. Officers canvassed the area and located a 9-mm handgun in the trash can. This person was then seen entering 2130 Washington, so a search warrant for additional evidence was executed at 2130 Washington.
This person of interest is currently being interviewed. No charges have been filed at this time, directly related to the shooting.
