Dubuque Fighting Saints Draft Picks

In the midst of preparing for a decisive Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Final, the Dubuque Fighting Saints added several key pieces to the organization’s future. The Fighting Saints participated in Phase One of the 2015 USHL Draft on Monday May 4th.

Phase One of the draft was for players from the 1999 birth year. Dubuque had eight selections in the 10-round draft and selected four forwards, three defenseman and one goaltender.

Dubuque’s first selection on Monday was goaltender Dominik Vlaha in the 3^rd Round. The highly regarded netminder from Culver Academy stands at 6-foot-2 and hails from Snohomish, Washington. Prior to joining Culver, he was a member of the San Jose Jr. Sharks Bantam AAA program. The right-handed catching goaltender was one of the top netminders in his age group.

The Fighting Saints 4^th Round selection was Dylan Seitz, a forward from the Nichols School. The native of Eden, New York stands at 6-foot, 155 pounds and shoots left. The forward boasts a scoring touch and has experience playing center.

In the 5^th Round, Dubuque selected defenseman Danny Petrick from Springfield Cathedral.  The native of Wilbraham, MA, posted 8 goals and 38 assists for 46 points in 25 games during the 2014-2015 season. He is committed to Northeastern and stands at 5-foot-9 and 170 pounds.

Phase Two of the USHL Draft begins on Tuesday, May 5th at 8:00 a.m. All picks in Phase Two will be announced in real-time via a draft board on www.USHL.com and via the Fighting Saints twitter page.  This phase is a multi-age group draft as teams can select players anywhere between the 1995 and 1999 birth years and look to fill their protected lists with players who will compete for roster spots for the 2015-16 season.  The number of rounds in Phase Two is not pre-determined.  It continues until all drafting USHL teams have secured 45 players on their Initial Protected List.  That list includes affiliate players from the 2014-15 season, players selected in Phase One, and players signed to a tender.
