Discounted Trees Available to Dubuque Residents
Dubuque residents still have the opportunity to purchase trees at a discount. It's an opportunity for residents to participate in climate action at the local level with help from the City of Dubuque Sustainability office, Dubuque Trees Forever, and local nurseries
Dubuque residents interested in receiving a discount for a tree from a local nursery must attend a one-hour information session for tree-planting training and to learn more on how trees impact climate action. Registration is not required, and residents may choose one of two remaining sessions that will be offered from 6-7 p.m. at the Carnegie-Stout Library Program Room on the main floor Thursday, August 25th; or Thursday, September 29.th
There are 10 of the $250, 22 of the $125, and 46 of the $25 coupons remaining. The overall "need" for trees is the main factor in deciding which discounts residents receive. If you are living in moderate-to-lower income areas with minimal tree canopies you qualify for the higher dollar amount coupons. Discounts received may be redeemed at Wagner's Nursery and Steve's Ace Nursery for trees roughly 3-5 years old. Trees available through the program include Honeycrisp Apple, State Street Maple, Hackberry, Quaking Aspen, Ohio Buckeye, Autumn Gold Ginkgo, Japanese Lilac, Pagoda Dogwood, DeGroot Spire, and River Birch. Tree transporting and planting help is available.
Trees have many benefits including, improving air quality, sequestering carbon, reducing energy use, managing stormwater, improving public health, and mitigating the heat island effect, as well as beautifying the community.
The sessions being offered on August 25th and September 29th will be the last sessions offered in 2022.
