During a surprise appearance the 2019 Newport Folk Festival, Dolly Parton took the stage alongside Brandi Carlile to perform one of her most enduring hits. Press play above to watch the two artists join forces for "I Will Always Love You."

Originally released in 1974, "I Will Always Love You" remains one of the most beloved musical contributions of Parton's career. During the two singers' Newport Folk Festival performance on Saturday (July 27), Carlile was visibly emotional, and she and Parton put their arms around each other for the final verse of the song.

In addition to performing "I Will Always Love You," Parton participated in a 75-minute, Carlile-curated set during the festival, including a rendition of "Jolene" with the Highwomen and Linda Perry. The country icon and Carlile also invited a phalanx of female performers -- including the Highwomen, Sheryl Crow, pop-folk singer-songwriter Maggie Rogers, Yola, Molly Tuttle, Jade Bird and Candi Carpenter -- to the stage to perform "9 to 5."

The 2019 Newport Folk Festival was a momentous occasion for country supergroup the Highwomen, which consists of Carlile, Maren Morris, Amanda Shires and Natalie Hemby: Aside from duetting with the legendary Parton, it was also their first official performance as a band. The foursome debuted a new song, "If She Ever Leaves Me," during the festival, and also shared "Highwomen," a retooled version of the Highwaymen's signature tune. At the festival, the Highwomen played the entirety of their self-titled debut album, which is due for release Sept. 6.
