Blake Shelton Makes Live Debut of ‘Hell Right’ During Rainstorm at Gillette Stadium [Watch]
Blake Shelton's first performance of his new single "Hell Right" included a rainstorm, but that didn't seem to damper fans' excitement.
Shelton was an opening act during George Strait's show at Gillette Stadium on Saturday (Aug. 17), and when rain started coming down during his set, he wasn't deterred.
Toward the end of his performance, The Voice coach debuted the live version of his new song with Trace Adkins, "Hell Right," and a video of the special moment was later shared on Instagram.
As rain poured down on the massive crowd of people gathered at the foot of the stage, they changed the song title as Shelton sang: "Somewhere in America / There's a bottle to burn and a fire to light / And you ain't done nothin' if you did it half way / If you gonna raise hell, then you better damn raise / Hell right."
"That's the first time I ever performed that song right there," he said, raising his cup. "I told y'all I'm never gonna forget this night."
"Gillette Stadium with @georgestrait in the rain... Hell right!!!" he added on Instagram. "Hell Right" was released weeks after Shelton's previous single, "God's Country," hit No. 1 on country radio. Both tracks were co-written by up-and-coming star Hardy.
Shelton admits that he didn't have much interest in recording music at the time that this one fell into his lap, but when he heard it, he had to lay claim on it. "About three-quarters of the way through the song, I decided, ‘Oh, my god, I’m not done recording. I’ve gotta go cut this song. It’s just so much fun and just so infectious," he explains to Nash Country Daily.
The country superstar recently opened up to Taste of Country and other media, saying that while a new album feels inevitable, he's in no rush to make one and is reveling in the process of cutting songs he's passionate about and releasing them when he feels the time is right.
"I'm glad we're not up here right now talking about this album coming out because if that was the situation I probably wouldn't have this new song that we're super pumped about that will probably be next, it seems like it," he says. "I'm just having a blast with it. So, yeah, we have a ton of stuff recorded. Will all of it see the light of day? The way the music industry works these days, probably. I don't know when or how."
