Just in time for this weekend's expended 2-5 inches of snow, Dubuquers may have more places to go sledding soonSix more parks could be added to Dubuque’s list of approved city-owned sledding areas next week, though it seems unlikely any of the relatively flat recreation areas will be popular among winter sports enthusiasts.

City Council members will consider an ordinance amendment on Monday that would allow sledding, skiing and snowboarding in Comiskey, Flat Iron, Grant Orange and Pinard parks, as well as in Washington Square.

The parks would join Bunker Hill Golf Course and Allison-Henderson, Gay, Usha and Valentine parks as the only city-owned properties on which sledding is allowed. Sledding was banned elsewhere early this month to protect the city from injury lawsuits, officials have said. Each of the parks being considered is virtually free of hills. According to a memo from city staffers, “the terrain of the parks allows for minimal signage.”
