Jason Aldean's new single, "Drowns the Whiskey," features backing vocals from Miranda Lambert, but on Tuesday night (May 22), Aldean was the only country superstar on the The Voice stage during his performance. Readers can press play above to watch Aldean's solo performance of the new track.

Backed by his band, Aldean accompanied himself on guitar for his performance of "Drowns the Whiskey." In place of Lambert, a female backup singer added harmonies, albeit more understated ones.

"Drowns the Whiskey" appears on Aldean's recently released eighth studio album, Rearview Town. It's the second studio collaboration between Aldean and Lambert, who previously recorded "Grown Woman" for Aldean's second studio album, 2007's Relentless -- but it almost didn't happen.

"I had a [different] song in mind, and I sent it to her, and she was kind of iffy on it," Aldean says. "I was like, 'Hey, listen, if you don't like it, it's cool. I want you to love whatever we wind up doing. We'll find something else.'" Then, he thought of "Drowns the Whiskey," and sent Lambert the track. "She loved it," he adds.

Aldean is not only a friend of Lambert's -- he's a fan, too: "She's such a great singer -- such a great harmony singer, too," he gushes. "I've always been a big fan of her voice, and her style."

On Tuesday night, Aldean was part of a star-studded lineup for The Voice's season finale. Kane Brown, Jennifer Hudson, Florence and the Machine and more took the stage before Kelly Clarkson's team member Brynn Cartelli was declared the winner. This season was Clarkson's first as a coach on The Voice, and Cartelli, at just 15 years old, is the youngest winner in the TV singing competition's history.
