Blake Shelton, Dolly Parton and More Share Glen Campbell Memories, Condolences

Glen Campbell died Tuesday (Aug. 8) at the age of 81, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. As the news of his death broke that afternoon, a number of country artists used social media to share their love for the icon and their condolences to his loved ones.

Brad Paisley chose to reflect on Campbell’s “artistry, grace and class,” calling him “a shining light in so many ways.” Margo Price, meanwhile, admitted that she was “feeling for his beautiful family,” which includes his wife Kim and his eight children.

David Nail called Campbell “my biggest idol” and “the finest singer I ever heard;” Dolly Parton echoed Nail’s sentiment, referring to Campbell as “one of the greatest voices of all time.”

In 2005, Campbell was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. His long list of accolades includes numerous Grammy Awards and Grammy Hall of Fame honors, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, two CMA Awards (including Entertainer of the Year), a number of ACM Awards and many more.

In June of 2011, Campbell announced his Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis, after experiencing short-term memory loss for several years. Soon after, he embarked on a farewell tour while he was still capable of performing; his last show took place on Nov. 30, 2012, in Napa, Calif. In June, Campbell released his final album, Adios.
