At our weekly meeting of the Dubuque Sertoma Club today, our guest speaker was Wendy Scardino of the United Way of Dubuque.

Prior to today's meeting I had already heard about the United Way and thought I knew most of what the organization did.  However I did learn one very big thing today.  Wendy talked about the Dolly Parton Imagination Library...a program to help get kids interested in reading at a very early age.  The program provides a new book every month to every child 5 and under that registers...regardless of their financial standing.   Wendy mentioned that about 40% of eligible kids in Dubuque County are already signed up for the program.  If you have kids or grand kids that you want to register CLICK HERE for more information. I developed a love form reading at an early age(mostly because my Mom signed me up for a library card).  I think that early love of reading helped me in school and eventually led me to me career in radio.  Give your child the jump start he or she deserves.  Look into the program today.  I know I am for my 3 grand kids.
