A Dubuque man just got a whole lot richer thanks not only to the Iowa Lottery, but a brand new game that just launched at the start of the year.

The game itself is the Iowa Lottery's Power 10X, a $2 scratch game that features eight top prizes of $20,000. The overall odds of the game are 1 in 3.73, per a press release from Iowa Lottery. It's an affordable game for those looking for a chance at some serious riches.

Jim Hanson of Dubuque found that out in the best possible way. Hanson won $20,000 on the Power 10X game. Per Telegraph Herald, Hanson claimed his prize on Thursday, January 9th.

Hanson purchased the winning ticket at Eagle Country Market, located at 1800 Elm Street in Dubuque. Like many retailers, they are sure to see an uptick in lottery sales following one man scoring a five-figure payday.

The Iowa Lottery saw a significant change come to one of its most popular games this year in Mega Millions.

Among the enhancements to the game are:

  • Improved odds to win the jackpot
  • Bigger jackpots more frequently
  • Larger starting jackpots
  • Faster-growing jackpots

However, improved odds and larger riches means a price-hike is coming. The current cost of a Mega Millions ticket in Iowa is $2. When these changes take effect in April 2025, the cost of a Mega Millions ticket will rise to $5. This is only the second price adjustment in the game's history, dating back to May 2002. This is also the first change since the current game design was adopted in 2017, per The Ottumwa Post.

On that note, maybe the Power 10X game is the way to go if you're looking for a more inexpensive way to riches. I'm sure Hanson would agree. Read more about our local Dubuque lottery winner on Telegraph Herald's website.
