A judge in Nashville has dismissed the most recent charges against producer Tony Brown, which stemmed from allegedly violating a restraining order after an alleged incident in June.

Brown has played a pivotal role in the modern history of country music. He began his career as a musician, playing with artists including Elvis Presley and Emmylou Harris, before moving over to the business side of the industry, where he guided Reba McEntire, George Strait and Steve Earle to success, among many more. He played a crucial role in Vince Gill‘s success, signing him to MCA and producing a string of commercially successful and award-winning albums.

The legendary producer was arrested in February after his wife, Jamie, called police to their home, charging that Brown had assaulted her after they had a fight over a photo shoot that was scheduled for the next day.

Brown was arrested again on June 29 after allegedly following a woman and three of her friends in a car in a parking lot in an upscale area of Nashville. The Tennessean did not identify the woman, but reported that she had taken out a protective order against Brown after a Feb. 23 incident in which he was charged with domestic bodily injury. A separate report from Nashville’s NewsChannel 5 identified the woman as Brown’s now ex-wife, who alleged that he purposely showed up in the parking lot of her nail salon and followed her and her fiance on June 28. He was charged with violating a restraining order.

According to the Tennessean, Nashville General Sessions Judge Angelita Blackshear Dalton dismissed the charges against Brown on Monday (Aug. 15), accepting his explanation that his presence in the parking lot was coincidental and that he was meeting a business associate. Brown's lawyer, Erik Herbert, tells the Tennessean that Judge Dalton heard testimony from two witnesses, including Brown's ex-wife.

"The judge did not find there was probable cause that a crime had been committed to justify sending the case to a grand jury," Herbert says.

“This was definitely the outcome we expected as these allegations were absurd from the start,” Melissa Core, a brand manager with Dead Horse Branding, tells the Tennessean in an email.

Brown suffered a fall at his home in 2003 that resulted in brain damage. His then-wife, Anastasia, has said that his personality changed dramatically afterward. The couple spoke of their struggles to People in 2008, revealing that Brown had been diagnosed with depression and that they had been trying to save their marriage. They divorced in 2009, and he married Jamie in 2013.

In September of 2013 Jamie charged that Brown kicked in a bedroom door in their home, assaulted her and threw her in their swimming pool after an argument . They divorced, then re-married and renewed their vows in early February of 2016. Just weeks later, Brown was again arrested for domestic violence. Posts to social media indicate that Jamie has since gotten re-married.
