On Wednesday, USA Hockey announced the winners of its annual awards for the 2015-16 season.

Dubuque Fighting Saints goaltender Hunter Miska (North Branch, Minn./University of Minnesota-Duluth) was named the recipient of the Dave Peterson Goalie of the Year Award after a stellar campaign as one of the best goaltenders in the United States Hockey League.

Miska, who completed his final season of junior hockey with an overall combined record of 38-18-2, dominated the USHL. He captured USHL Goaltender of the Week honors twice throughout the season, and won 32 games during the regular season. That mark topped Jacob Nehama’s mark of 29 wins in a season, accomplished during the 2014-15 season.

“It’s an honor to have been chosen as goalie of the year,” Miska said. “I couldn’t have done it without the great group of guys I had the opportunity to play with, and the best coaching staff in the league.”

During the playoffs, Miska took his game to the next level, having posted a 2.24 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage overall. He led the way during the Eastern Conference Semifinal against the Green Bay Gamblers with a 1.56 GAA and a .946 save percentage for the series.

“We could not be more proud of Hunter for the banner year he put forth in a Fighting Saints uniform,” head coach/GM Jason Lammers said. “He took our team to the next level, and he will no doubt succeed at the next level due to his level of commitment to the game and to his craft.”

The award, named after the late Dave Peterson, who coached the United States at the 1988 and 1992 Olympics, national teams in 1985, 1986 and 1987, as well as junior teams in 1986 and 1987, highlights the top American goaltender at the international, professional or junior level. Prior winners include Detroit Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard, and New Jersey Devils goaltender Cory Schneider.

Miska is committed to the University of Minnesota-Duluth, and will begin his freshman season in 2016-17 with the Bulldogs. Prior to joining the Fighting Saints, Miska excelled with the Penticton Vees of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL), and started his junior hockey career with the USA National Team Development Program.
