New Scam In Dubuque

The Dubuque Police Department has asked WJOD for help in getting a warning out to the general public regarding some suspicious activity that happened in the community today.  They received 2 reports (so far) of adult male subjects (at least 2) attempting to gain access to citizen's homes by claiming they are working on a water main break in the area (or other similar emergency).  One male distracts the resident (usually trying to get them to go down into the basement with him) while the other person(s) involved quickly check the house for valuables to steal.  We had one report on Algona Street and another on Wartburg Place.  The obvious message is to never allow anyone in your home unless you've verified their purpose and credentials, and to call law enforcement immediately if there's even the slightest doubt.  We don't have many additional details at this point as these 2 reports just came in and theywanted to get the warning out as soon as possible.
