Leonardo DiCaprio and Danny Boyle May Tackle the Aaron Sorkin-Scripted Steve Jobs Biopic

With David Fincher and Christian Bale out of the running for the Aaron Sorkin-scripted Steve Jobs biopic, it seems that Sony is now looking to have Danny Boyle direct the film, and he’s approached Leonardo DiCaprio to star.

This news comes from The Hollywood Reporter, and this would be a reunion for Boyle and DiCaprio. The duo teamed up in 2000 to make ‘The Beach.’ Back then both were hot as Boyle was still riding high on the success of ‘Trainspotting,’ while ‘The Beach’ was DiCaprio’s first big role post-‘Titanic’ (it also netted him his first superstar-sized payday). It wasn’t a great film or a hit, but both artists have grown since then, as in the interim Boyle became an Academy Award winning director, while DiCaprio has developed a meaningful working relationship with Martin Scorsese.

DiCaprio has also shown a great eye for working with other talented filmmakers, and has had both box office and critical success with films like ‘Inception’ and ‘The Wolf of Wall Street.’ The one thing he doesn’t have is an Oscar, and if he could nail a good Steve Jobs, he would certainly become a contender if not the presumed front-runner for Best Actor whatever year this comes out. It’s likely that if he takes this role, this would hit theaters in 2015 for Oscar season.
