‘Bad Santa 2’ Red Band Trailer: Santa’s Mom Is Coming to Town
It seems pretty silly that anyone would bother with releasing a green band trailer for Bad Santa 2 — it’s not as if this movie is for people who aren’t aware of what they’re getting into. The whole selling point is Billy Bob Thornton as a booze-drenched, foul-mouthed and utterly despicable (that’s seriously an understatement) crook who dresses up as Santa. Any pretense of propriety has been dropped with the release of the second red band trailer which is, somehow, more crass than the first.
‘Man of Steel’ Sequel Confirmed by Henry Cavill’s Manager
Over the summer, a report suggested that Warner Bros. had put Man of Steel 2 in “active development,” despite reports in 2015 that the sequel to Zack Snyder’s Superman film had been placed on permanent hold. Warner Bros. has yet to confirm plans for a new standalone Superman sequel, but it looks like someone else just did it for them: Henry Cavill’s manager.
Relax, Tom Cruise Is Officially Returning For ‘Mission: Impossible 6’
Pre-production on Mission: Impossible 6 came to a halt last month when a contract dispute between Tom Cruise and Paramount threatened to stall the sixth installment in the blockbuster franchise. The sticking point? Cruise wanted the studio to match — or top — what Universal is paying him to star in The Mummy reboot, but Paramount was a little contentious…yeah right, as if they weren’t going to give Tom Cruise, the star of one of their biggest franchises, what he wants.
Yes, There Will Be an ‘Angry Birds Movie’ Sequel
Despite mixed reviews, The Angry Birds Movie was pretty successful at the box office, thanks to an early summer release date, a solid voice cast and an established franchise with a strong fan base. As you might have guessed, the animated adaptation of the hit video game series was successful enough to warrant a sequel, and if you’re rolling your eyes at the prospect, just remember that we’ve gotten sequels to movies that were far worse than this one, based on much less success.
‘Warcraft’ Sequel Teased by Film’s Official Social Media Account…In China
Warcraft didn’t perform very well domestically, which isn’t entirely surprising considering that Duncan Jones’ adaptation of the popular video game franchise didn’t exactly have broad appeal. But as many predicted, Warcraft was a huge hit overseas, particularly in China, with the international box office grosses making it the most successful video game movie of all time. But are those international numbers enough to justify a sequel?
Sigourney Weaver Is Still Talking About Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Alien’ Sequel
Today brings news that San Diego Comic-Con will play host to a special panel to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Aliens, James Cameron’s sequel to Ridley Scott’s sci-fi horror classic. Cameron himself will be in attendance along with Sigourney Weaver, who is still talking up Neill Blomkamp’s new Alien sequel despite reports that the project had been delayed due to Scott’s own Alien prequel plans.
‘Ocean’s Eleven’ Spinoff Title Confirmed, Gary Ross Promises ‘Similar Tone’ to Soderbergh’s Trilogy
When Cate Blanchett was initially rumored for the Ocean’s Eleven spinoff, so too was the film’s working title: Ocean’s Ocho, which refers to the number of characters in the ensemble for Gary Ross’ female-fronted heist project. Ross himself has now officially confirmed the title for the film, which he’s been developing with original Ocean’s trilogy director Steven Soderbergh for some time now. And if you’re wondering just how similar Ross’ film will be to its predecessors, the answer is “pretty similar.”
Mel Gibson Is Planning a ‘Passion of the Christ’ Sequel
Faith-based films have been riding a wildly successful wave for several years now, only recently stumbling a bit with the underwhelming box office returns for God’s Not Dead 2. And while that seemed to indicate that faithful audiences might not be too keen on sequels, Mel Gibson may very well prove that theory wrong as the actor and director is apparently plotting a sequel to The Passion of the Christ.
Tom Cruise Returns in First ‘Jack Reacher: Never Go Back’ Photos
Christopher McQuarrie didn’t return to write and direct Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, but at least it’s because he’s working with Tom Cruise on a different sequel (Mission: Impossible 6). Still, a new Jack Reacher movie is something we can all look forward to, and the first photos from Never Go Back have arrived to get us properly pumped.
‘Spider-Man 4’ Concept Art Reveals the Villains and Humor of Sam Raimi’s Abandoned Sequel
After delivering two great Spider-Man films back-to-back (and almost singlehandedly launching a new era of superhero franchises), Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 left fans and critics feeling a bit disappointed. With one too many villains, that famous Peter Parker dance sequence (which I actually like!) and reports of Sony’s meddling, Raimi’s third film in the series ultimately proved to be his last when he abandoned plans for Spider-Man 4 back in 2010 — leaving us wondering what his fourth film might have looked like. Thankfully, we don’t have to wonder (much) anymore.
