A Thousand Horses have released a brand-new single from their forthcoming sophomore album. Click play below to listen to the rocking new track, “Preachin’ to the Choir.”

A tribute to the hard-working, hard-partying everyday people that make up America, “Preachin’ to the Choir” was written by Heather Morgan, Morgan Wallen, Brad Warren and Brett Warren. It’s the first song that A Thousand Horses have recorded that they didn’t write themselves, but its sentiment and the sound rang true to the band.

“”Preachin’ to the Choir” is the working people’s anthem,” lead singer Michael Hobby tells Rolling Stone. “It’s about the people that give it 100 percent and are an all-in / all-out kind of crowd. They work hard, they love hard, and they play hard, and that’s what the song really speaks to.”

Just as the the lyrics of “Preachin’ to the Choir” reflect the essential doctrine of A Thousand Horses, its music is a complement to their signature sound as well. Resolutely country-rock, the track features crisp instrumentation behind Hobby’s gravelly vocals, playing up the strengths of the singer’s talented bandmates, Bill Satcher, Zach Brown and Graham Deloach. Gospel choir backing vocals add another anthemic quality to the track.

“If I’m preachin’ to the choir / Raise your hands a little higher / If you wanna sing along to a Saturday night revival song / Let me see you sparking up your lighters,” sings Hobby in the chorus of “Preachin’ to the Choir.” “If you’re a 40-drinking, 40-working, living the dream, then you’re just like me / And I’m preachin’ to the choir.”

While the song is a natural fit within the ethos and sound of A Thousand Horses, the band was intentional about challenging themselves and expanding their reach in the recording of “Preachin’ to the Choir.” After working with famed Americana-rock producer Dave Cobb on their debut album, Southernality, the guys decided to team up with Dunn Huff for the new tune.

“Keeping our grit is what our thing is, and we didn’t want to lose that,” says Hobby. “But we wanted to show off how much we’ve grown. We’ve been a band for eight years, and in the last two years since Southernality, we’ve grown as musicians and performers and made our sound bigger. It’s the same A Thousand Horses but with a little more oomph to it.”

A Thousand Horses spent 2016 on the road with Jason Aldean‘s Six String Circus Tour. The ACM nominated group will be performing at festivals throughout the spring and summer before launching their first headlining tour in the fall.

“Preachin’ to the Choir” is available for download on iTunes.
